Joanne Saunders thanked all those in attendance for coming to the meeting and distributed the evening’s agenda. Sister Dorothy led the group in an opening prayer. Joanne requested the approval of the minutes from the prior meeting. Sandy made the motion to approve and Dan seconded the motion.
Sister Dorothy – School Items
Enrollment for next year was discussed. Eighteen new students enrolled for Kindergarten and five new students enrolled for other grades.
Sister discussed Middle States Accreditation. Middle States is a non-profit, non-denominational, organization. Schools began to obtain accreditation in 1990. Any school having accreditation must reapply every ten years. This year’s theme is “Designing Our Future”. It is a self evaluation program, during which goals are set for the school by members of the school. Those goals are then evaluated for progress and success by a team of Middle States members. Faculty has already started to prepare for this. The Middle States team will tour the school; volunteering parents will attend preparation meetings; and the students will provide entertainment for the team. For additional information, visit the following website, www.middlestatesassociation.com. This is in NO way related to the closing of a school!!!
Heidi Kipp/Ann Marie Kiszka - PTG Auxiliary
Two upcoming events are a teachers’ appreciation luncheon to be held on 5/7/10 and a parents’ appreciation luncheon to be held on 6/4/10. PTG Auxiliary minutes are available on the website.
Paul Giuffre/Kelly DiNatale – Golf Outing
There will be a golf outing held on 5/24/10. Current profit is expected to be $7,000. If 4-5 additional foursomes sign up, maximum profit will be $12,000-$15,000. Plans are progressing well at this point. This event is predominantly funded by area businesses, which alleviates the burden on school families.
Financial
As of today, Anne Cooper reported a current balance of $20,262. This enables us to make the fourth payment for this year of $16,000 for the school. Being that the book fair and golf outing have not been held as of yet, a surplus is expected. J $18,976 was raised from the Night at the Races fundraiser. Sarris candy sales yielded $1,463. The first fish fry produced $1,864 and the second $2,243. Two will be held next year as well, both on Fridays. The Barnes and Noble event resulted in $572. All agreed that even though the profit was a low dollar amount, it was beneficial to have our school recognized in the community. The book fair and golf outing will be the last two fundraisers held for this year. Anne asked whether or not the credit card machine that was used for the fall fling and fish fry should continue to be used, since expenses are incurred by doing so. Joanne proposed to the board that the machine be kept. Sandy motioned to keep the machine and Dan seconded the motion.
Jocelyn Bosick - Marketing
School tours were recently provided to fourteen families. Six of these families were from Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit is closing. A meeting was held there in which several schools came to present themselves to the families of Holy Spirit. Our school was well represented at this meeting by Jocelyn Bosick, Julie Podgorski and Sister Dorothy.
Colleen Strahler – Certificates
Final payouts were given to parents in the amount of $10,868 for the 2009/2010 school year. Certificates will be sold for the entire month of June. When the school is closed, certificates can be purchased at the church on the third Sunday of every month. A new order form will be posted on the website. Colleen also announced that Julie Strahl will be selling certificates at St. Edward’s Parish at 11:00 mass every Sunday. Certificates are the ONLY way to receive credit towards school tuition. Creditcards will now be accepted for certificate purchases.
Athletics
There are several vacancies on the athletic board, including president and treasurer. The election of these
positions will be held at the athletic banquet. New this year, all players are welcomed to attend the banquet. Coaches must be aware of all players’ health history.
New Business
A new committee, the finance and enrollment committee, was proposed to the board. Sam Kitner volunteered to start the committee. He asked for three other members to work with him. If approved, documents will go out introducing the committee and its purpose. The committee will help with grants and financial support. Joanne proposed the committee to the board. Paul Giuffre motioned to approve the committee. And Dan Wilmer seconded the motion.
Discussed what fundraisers should be done next year. A survey will be sent out to obtain family input.
There being no further business, Joanne Saunders proposed to adjourn the meeting. Ann Marie Kiszka made a motion, which Dan seconded to adjourn the meeting. Next meeting tentatively scheduled for 5/18/10.
